Just wondering which of us is insane enough to be planning to participate in NaNoWriMo...besides Donal and Eli, of course, who I'm sure must be involved...

I'm going to attempt it, but I'm fairly pessimistic about my chances of finishing this time, since I'll be out of the country for over a week. Eh.

Yes sticks are the only thing his kind understand.

It sounds like you're joining Issy in the NOT thinking about thinking about maybe doing Nano.

Well mates!

How's NaNoWriMo going? Of everybody who was considering maybe thinking about tossing a coin and doing NaNoWriMo if it landed on its edge--who's made a start? Storylines emerging?

I'm all enthusiastic about it this year because it's currently on track. In another week I will be a despair machine of some sort. But for now I am enthusiastic.

I've had a shaky start this year. Currently salvaging a weekend of not writing by ploughing through a few thousand words. There has been two murders so far though, neither planned for.

Well, I mean, murders. That's Dublin for you. Nothing like a double murder to mess up a fella's quiet weekend.

Oh you mean in the story.

Yeah, I have some fairly chunky storyline elements that I wasn't planning on including at all. They just kind of happened. One of my characters is in prison now. Bit of a tight one to write him out of. I might have had a few beers while writing this weekend...that might be part of it. When it's done I'll probably be able to see quite clearly what bits I was slightly drunk while writing (sloppy execution, inscrutable ideas) and sober while writing (sloppy execution, dull ideas). Some happy medium between inscrutability and dullness is what I'm after.

The Writer's Jacket is on, I take it? And the Writer's Bag is at your side?

Yes in the story, but the story is set in Dublin so it's no surprise really.

A happy medium is a hard line to walk. I mean do you start with coffee and move onto the hard stuff or keep a steady buzz going with a beer or two and then ramp up to whiskey when the blood is up.

I've just had a cup of coffee the size of a small baby, if I drink more there's no sleep for me. I think I will open some wine. Wine is good for filling up pages with bollocks. I need to get my bollocks quotient up as so far I'm reasonably pleased with everything.

The writer's jacket is not on right now as I'm sitting in a room with the heating on, but it is nearby, as is the writer's bag. Their presence gives me succor in my times of need. Also, a lady in the pub admired my writer's bag last week so it must be working.

Good for you and the writer's bag and the action-packed plot. I have a page or two of notes but have yet to start actually writing. Other crap keeps happening all day and then I get tired.

But I DO have this extra large NaNoWriMo mug that my mother bought me last year; perhaps I, too should have an immense cup of coffee and damn the torpedoes. (Or is that "dam the torpedoes?")

I've got one of those mugs, in fact I've got two of those mugs...long story. Unfortunately tonight I took my own advice and followed up my baby sized mug of coffee with half a bottle (or more maybe) of wine. The writing has stopped now and I have been taking pictures of my face (sigh). I didn't walk that fine line very well.

I will admit that the lady in the pub who admired my writers bag was Elimare, but she is a lady and she is a writer so that counts as double in my book. Go out and get yourself writer's bags people, they clearly work!

Sarah you still have at least 24hours before you can viably start Nano without having to kill yourself to catch up. Take the plunge I say.

Okay, so you're not all of you programmers, but this made me think of you.

I'm still not doing this officially, though I could jump in at any time -- after all, there are some words on the story of the Oneiroseer already written, which could technically count as, er, outlining...

We'll see if I manage. It's hard to picture, since I'll actually be on your side of the planet come Friday, though unfortunately not in visiting vicinity (but if any of you are going to be in Venice between the 9th and 16th, let me know...) Vacation tends to wreak havoc on writing time. But ya never know. I can always go longhand and type it up later...how freakish would that be?
